Pick Variety

Mein Vater nutzte jahrelang ein und denselben Zahnstocher. Das gute Stück schlummerte in seiner Jackentasche und wartete auf Gebrauch. Neuware verschmähte mein Vater. Bestechungsversuche liefen ins Leere. Es musste der immer selbe Zahnstocher sein. Ich beschloss, ein Exot muss her. Meine Hoffnung war: Mein Vater würde Gefallen finden an einem attraktiven Vertreter aus dem Ausland. Ich begann, Zahnstocher aus aller Welt zu sammeln.

Pick Variety ist das Zeugnis dieses Sammelns und des gescheiterten Versuchs, meinen Vater vom Austausch zu überzeugen oder ihm einen Exoten unterzujubeln.

My father used one and the same toothpick for years. The trusty little piece slumbered in his jacket pocket, waiting to be used. My father rejected fresh supplies. Attempts at bribery were in vain. It had to be the very same toothpick – no other one was good enough. I decided that an exotic specimen was needed. My hope was: My father might like an attractive representative from abroad. Thus, I began collecting toothpicks from all over the world.

Pick Variety is the testimony of this collection and of my failed attempt to persuade my father to make a swap or to secretly replace his toothpick with an exotic one.
